Be sure no one is working on or near the machine to prevent injury. Keep the machine under control at all times to prevent injury. Reduce governor speed when maneuvering in tight quarters or when breaking over a rise. When traveling any distance, engage the swing lock pin while the upper structure is in line with the tracks. Retract the stick and carry the boom in a low position. When starting up a steep grade or breaking over a rise, keep the boom lowered as close to the ground as possible. When traveling uphill, or on a slope, keep the boom on the uphill side of the machine. Keep the stick out on a clamshell machine to prevent the bucket from swinging into the cab. |

- 2. Fasten and adjust the seat belt.
- 3. Move the governor control lever to the operating range.
- 4. Move the hydraulic and directional lock lever up to the unlocked (operable) position.

Push down the left travel pedal for reverse travel (travel toward the sprockets).
- 7. Use the steering control in conjunction with the travel pedals to accomplish pivot or spot turns.
- 8. When making turns in soft material, travel in a forward direction occasionally to clear the tracks.
Frozen Ground Conditions
To free the tracks from frozen ground, swing the boom to the front of the machine. Use boom down pressure to free the idler end of the machine.
