NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "AVSpare Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in AVSpare machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

The engine oil level can be checked while the engine is running or while the engine is stopped. The recommended procedure is checking the oil while the engine is stopped.

  1. Enter the engine room through the door for the hydraulic pump room. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Access Doors and Covers" for more information.

  1. Engine oil dipstick (1) is located on the engine to the right of the engine oil filters. Remove the dipstick. Wipe the oil off the dipstick and reinsert the dipstick.

  1. Remove the dipstick again.

If the engine is stopped, make sure that the oil level is between the "ADD" and "FULL" marks on the "ENGINE STOPPED" side of the dipstick.

If the engine is running, make sure that the oil level is between the "ADD" and "FULL" marks on the "ENGINE AT LOW IDLE" side of the dipstick.

  1. Reinsert the dipstick.

Perform Step 5 through Step 7 only if the oil level is too low.

Note: Oil that is badly contaminated or deteriorated should be replaced early regardless of the change interval. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for information on changing the oil.

  1. Unscrew oil filler plug (2) and remove the oil filler plug.

    NOTICE

Operating your engine when the oil level is above the "FULL" mark could cause your crankshaft to dip into the oil. The air bubbles created from the crankshaft dipping into the oil reduces the oil's lubricating characteristics and could result in the loss of power.

  1. Add oil until the oil level is between the "ADD" and "FULL" marks on the appropriate side of the dipstick. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for information on the engine oil capacity.

Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" for information on containing fluid spillage.

  1. Clean the filler plug and install the plug.
