NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "AVSpare Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in AVSpare machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Refer to the following procedure in order to change the engine oil and the engine oil filters.

Note: Drain the crankcase while the oil is warm. This allows waste particles that are suspended in the oil to drain. As the oil cools, the waste particles will settle to the bottom of the crankcase. If the oil cools, the particles will not be removed by draining the oil and the particles will recirculate in the engine lubrication system with the new oil.

  1. Park the machine on a level surface. Stop the engine.

  1. Drain the oil by using one of the following two methods:

    1. High speed coupling (1) is located on the right side of the machine. Remove the cap and attach an oil pump to high speed coupling (1). Pump the engine oil out of the crankcase. Dispose of all drained fluids according to local regulations.

      Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" for information on containing fluid spillage.

    1. Drain plug (3) is located under the machine on the right side. Remove drain plug (3) and install a pipe nipple with 1-11 1/2 NPTF threads into the drain port. Attach a hose to the pipe nipple. Open drain valve (2) and drain the oil into a suitable container. Close drain valve (2) and remove the pipe nipple. Install drain plug (3). Dispose of all drained fluids according to local regulations.

      Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" for information on containing fluid spillage.

  1. Enter the engine room through the door for the hydraulic pump room. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Access Doors and Covers" for more information.

  1. Engine oil filters (4) are located on the right side of the engine. Remove each of the four filters with a strap type wrench and inspect the filters. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Oil Filter - Inspect" for information on inspecting the oil filters.

  1. Clean the filter mounting bases. Make sure that all of the old seals are removed.

  1. Apply a thin coat of clean engine oil to the seals of the new engine oil filters.

  1. Install the new filters by hand. Additionally tighten the filters by 3/4 of a turn after the seals contact the filter bases.

    Every new filter has four rotation index marks. Each mark indicates 1/4 of a turn. Use these rotation index marks as a guide for tightening the oil filters.

  1. Oil filler plug (5) is located on the right side of the engine above the engine oil filters. Unscrew the oil filler plug and remove the plug.


    NOTICE

    Do not underfill or overfill the engine crankcase with oil. Either condition can cause engine damage.


  1. Fill the crankcase with new oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for information on the correct type of oil and quantity of oil.

  1. Clean oil filler plug (5) and install the oil filler plug.


    NOTICE

    Operating your engine when the oil level is above the "FULL" mark could cause your crankshaft to dip into the oil. The air bubbles created from the crankshaft dipping into the oil reduces the oil's lubricating characteristics and could result in the loss of power.


  1. Start the engine and allow the oil to warm. Check the engine for leaks. Stop the engine.

  1. Allow the oil to drain back into the crankcase. Check the oil level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil Level - Check" in order to check the level of the engine oil.
