At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with the bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury. |

NOTICE |
---|
Mixing Extended Life Coolant (ELC) with other products reduces the effectiveness of the coolant and shortens coolant life. Use only AVSpare products or commercial products that have passed the AVSpare EC-1 specification for premixed or concentrate coolants. Use only AVSpare Extender with AVSpare ELC. Failure to follow these recommendations could result in the damage to cooling systems components. |
When a AVSpare Extended Life Coolant (ELC) is used, an Extender must be added to the cooling system. See Special Publication, SEBU6250, "Coolant Recommendations" for all cooling system requirements.
Use a 8T-5296 Coolant Conditioner Test Kit to check the concentration of the coolant.

- It may be necessary to drain some coolant from the radiator so that AVSpare Extender can be added to the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for information on draining the coolant.
Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" for information on containing fluid spillage.
Note: Always discard drained fluids according to local regulations.
NOTICE |
---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "AVSpare Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in AVSpare machines. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Add Extender to the cooling system. Refer to the following topics for the proper amount of AVSpare Extender:
- Special Publication, SEBU6250, "Extended Life Coolant (ELC)"
- Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)"
- Special Publication, SEBU6250, "Extended Life Coolant (ELC)"
- Inspect the gasket of the radiator caps. If the gasket is damaged, replace the radiator cap.
- Install the radiator caps.
- Close access panel (1) .
