Personal injury or death may result from failure to adhere to the following procedures. Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system. Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters. |

Do not fill the fuel filters with fuel before installing the fuel filters. The fuel will not be filtered and could be contaminated. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts. |
The primary filter/water separator is located behind the access door on the right side of the machine.
- Open the access door on the right side of the machine.

(4) Drain valve - Turn drain valve (4) counterclockwise in order to open. The drain valve is located on the bottom of the water separator.
Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" for information that pertains to containing fluid spillage.
- Drain the water and the sediment into a suitable container.
Note: Dispose of used fluids according to local regulations.
- Close drain valve (4).
- Remove filter (2) from filter base (1). A filter wrench may be used to loosen the filter.
- Remove filter (2) from bowl (3). Discard the used filter.
Note: The water separator bowl is reusable. Do not discard the water separator bowl.
- Clean the inside surfaces of the filter base and the bowl.
- Inspect the seal for damage. Replace the seal if the seal is damaged.
- Lubricate the seal for the bowl (3) with clean diesel fuel or lubricate the seal with clean motor oil.
- Install the bowl (3) onto the new filter by hand until the bowl is snug. Tighten the bowl to
10 N·m (7 lb ft) to approximately 1/6 of a turn. Do not use tools to tighten the bowl to the new filter. - Lubricate the seal on the new filter with clean diesel fuel or lubricate the seal with clean motor oil.
- Install the new filter by hand.
Note: Do not start the engine until all service to the fuel system is complete. For instructions about priming the fuel system, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime".
- Close the access door.
