Personal injury or death can result from a fire. Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system. Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters. |

Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the area around a fuel system component that will be disconnected. Fit a suitable cover over any disconnected fuel system components. |
- Shut off the fuel supply. Refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel Tank Shutoff and Drain Control" for additional information.
- Open the rear access door on the left side of the machine.

Illustration 1 g02158378 - Loosen drain valve (2) and allow the fuel to drain out of the housing.
Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" for information on containing fluid spillage.
- After all the fuel has been removed, tighten the drain.
- Remove the secondary fuel filter housing (1) from the base.
- Remove the filter element from the housing.
- Clean the filter housing and the base.
- Install the new filter element into the housing.
- Apply a thin coat of clean diesel fuel to the sealing surface of the new fuel filter.
- Install the new filter by hand until the filter housing contacts the base.
- Turn on the fuel supply. Refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel Tank Shutoff and Drain Control" for additional information.
- Prime the fuel system. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime" for instructions.
- Close the access door on the left side of the machine.
