Ensure that the installed jaw set is suitable for the application. Refer to, "Use of the Jaws" for additional information. Operating with the wrong jaw set installed will lead to structural damage of the work tool and to the host machine.

Do not operate the work tool unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance Manual. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in machine or work tool damage, serious injury or death.

Note: Ensure that the work tool is compatible with the host machine. Consult your Verachtert dealer for information on matching the work tool to the host machine.

Note: The work tool can be installed to the stick of the host machine by using a bracket. There are auxiliary lines kits that are available for the hydraulic system. Become familiar with the controls of your machine. Become familiar with the configuration of your machine.

Note: In order to maintain stability of the host machine, work with the tool in line with the tracks of the host machine.

Operate the Jaw

CLOSE - In order to close the jaw, move the control to the CLOSE position.

OPEN - In order to open the jaw, move the control to the OPEN position.

Note: Before you try to rotate the work tool, remove the device that locks the rotator. The VT-30 and VT-40 are equipped with a pin that locks the rotator. The VT-50 and VT-60 are equipped with a plate that locks the rotator. Before you put the work tool into operation, the device that locks the rotator must be removed. Refer to, "Transportation Information" for additional information.

ROTATE RIGHT - In order to rotate the work tool to the right, move the control to the ROTATE RIGHT position.

ROTATE LEFT - In order to rotate the work tool to the left, move the control to the ROTATE LEFT position.

Safe Operating Zone

Zone (D) is the total range of the work tool, when installed on the host machine. Operate the work tool in Zone (C). Zone (A) and Zone (B) are safety zones. Zone (A) is 20° to 25°. Zone (A) is at the bottom of the total range. Zone (B) is 10° to 15°. Zone (B) is at the top of the total range.

Note: Do not operate the work tool in Zone (A) and Zone (B) .

Operating Techniques

------ WARNING! ------

Check the application and install the correct jaws before operating the work tool.

Failure to use the work tool with the correct jaws installed could result in structural damage to the work tool, damage to the host machine. Failure to use the work tool with the correct jaws installed could result in serious injury, or death.

------ WARNING! ------

Observe the following precautions when cutting or breaking an object with the multi-processor:

  • Do not use the host machine cylinders

  • Do not rotate the multi-processor

  • Do not use the swing function of the host machine

  • Do not strike the object with the multi-processor

Abuse of the multi-processor in this manner can overstress the rotator head bolts. The rotator head bolts can fail, disengaging the multi-processor from the host machine. A falling multi-processor can result in serious injury or death.

NOTICE

Observe the following precautions when cutting or breaking an object with the multi-processor:

Do not use the host machine cylinders.

Do not rotate the multi-processor.

Do not use the swing function of the host machine.

Do not strike the object with the multi-processor.

Abuse of the work tool in this manner can result in structural damage to the work tool and to the host machine.


The work tool can perform a wide range of operations for demolition.

Hard objects that are standing can be demolished. When using the work tool to demolish hard objects that are standing, position the fixed jaw against the object you want to cut or break. Use the cylinder of the work tool to break or cut the object.

Do not use the host machine cylinders to break the object. Do not use the swing system of the host machine to break the object. You can damage the host machine or the work tool when you use the host machine cylinders or the swing system to break the object. Do not rotate the work tool in order to help break or cut objects.

Do not use the work tool to strike the object.

The tank shear jaws have a piercing tip on the jaw. The piercing tip can be used to make an opening in the object. The opening is large enough for the moveable jaw to penetrate into the object.

Refer to the section"Use of the Jaws" for more information.

Changing the Jaw Sets

------ WARNING! ------

The jaw set change procedure must be performed on a surface that is solid and level. Severe injury or death from falling objects or from crushing could occur.

Note: Clean the work tool before the jaw set change.

Removing the Jaw Sets

  1. Start the engine of the host machine.

  1. Close the moveable jaw.

  1. Position the moveable jaw towards the host machine. with the jaws near the ground. Rotate the work tool until the jaws are pointing toward the ground.

  1. Stop the engine of the host machine.

  1. Check the clearance between the ends of the two head bolts (1) and the frame (2). The maximum clearance is 0.5 mm (0.02 inch). Adjust the bolts if necessary. Lock the bolts (1) from rotating with the nut after adjusting the clearance.

    Note: This clearance must be checked to prevent issue's when the jaw set will be installed the next time.

  1. Remove locking bolts (3). Use the tool-wrench to loosen the nuts (4). Remove the nuts (4). Refer to table 1 for additional information.

  1. Start the engine of the host machine.

  1. Position the moveable jaw near the ground. Rotate the work tool until the jaws are pointing away from the host machine.

  1. Remove the cylinder pin (5). Use a large hammer and a brass drift to loosen the cylinder pin.

    Note: Install an appropriate nylon lifting sling and a hoist to the head of the pin. Refer to table 2 for the cylinder pin weights.

  1. Retract the cylinder.

  1. Install a bar into the lifting eyes of the frame. The bar will prevent the cylinder from tilting.

    Note: Extracting the cylinder when the bar has been installed will damage the cylinder rod surface.

  1. Close the ball valves on the host machine.

  1. Position the moveable jaw towards the host machine with the fixed jaw near the ground.

  1. Stop the engine of the host machine.

  1. Partially remove the two pins (6) from the work tool.

    Note: Use a large hammer and a brass drift in order to remove the pins from the work tool.

  1. Remove the pins (6) .

    Note: Install an appropriate nylon lifting sling and a hoist to the head of the pin. Refer to table 3 for the pin weights.

  1. Start the engine of the host machine.

  1. Move the frame in the direction that is shown in illustration 13.

  1. Stop the engine of the host machine.

  1. Perform daily inspection on the jaw set. Refer to, "Daily Inspection" for additional information.

  1. Lubricate bearing surfaces when the jaw set is stored for a long period. Refer to transport information, "Storage of Jaw Set" for additional information.

    Note: For transport information for the jaw set, refer to, "Shipping" and, "Lifting and Tying Down".

Installing the Jaw Sets

Note: Clean the frame and the bearings before installing the jaw set.

  1. Perform daily inspection on the frame. Refer to, "Daily Inspection" for additional information.

  1. Remove the two bushings (7) .

  1. Clean the bushings before lubrication. Lubricate the two bushings. Install the two bushings (7) .

  1. Clean the three pins. Lubricate the three pins before installation of the pins.

  1. Position the jaw set parallel with the stick on the host machine.

  1. Lubricate the bearings in the jaw set before installing the jaw set into the frame.

  1. Lubricate the chamber positioned inside the pivot point of the jaw set. Fill the entire chamber with grease until the chamber is filled with grease.


    NOTICE

    Not filling the chamber with grease can lead to structural damage to the jaw set.


  1. Start the engine of the host machine.

  1. Move the frame in the direction shown in illustration 17.

  1. Position the frame so the two pin holes are lined up with the jaw set.

  1. Raise the frame and the jaw set off the ground,

  1. Stop the engine of the host machine.

  1. Check the clearance between the ends of the two head bolts (1) and the frame (2) when installing a new jaw set for the first time into a used frame. The maximum clearance is 0.5 mm (0.02 inch). Adjust the bolts if necessary. Lock the bolts (1) from rotating with the nut after adjusting the clearance.

    Note: This clearance must be checked to prevent issue's when the jaw set will be installed the next time.

  1. Install the two pins (8) .

    Note: Install an appropriate nylon lifting sling and a hoist to the head of the pin. Refer to table 4 for the pin weights.

    Note: Use a large hammer and a brass drift to install the pins into the work tool. Remove the lifting sling after the pins are secure.

  1. Install the two nuts (9). Torque the two nuts to 300 N·m (221 lb ft). Loosen the nuts until a set of locking bolt holes are aligned with the holes in the two nuts (9). Use the tool-wrench to tighten the nuts. Refer to table 5 for additional information.

  1. Start the engine of the host machine.

  1. Open the ball valves on the host machine.

  1. Rotate the work tool until the work tool is positioned horizontally with the jaw set towards the host machine. Position the work tool near the ground.

  1. Remove the bar out of the lifting eyes of the frame.

  1. Position the cylinder eye with the pin hole in the moveable jaw.

  1. Stop the engine of the host machine.

  1. Install the cylinder pin (10) into the moveable jaw and the cylinder eye.

    Note: Install an appropriate nylon lifting sling and a hoist to the head of the pin. Refer to table 6 for the cylinder pin weights.

    Note: Use a large hammer and a brass drift to install the cylinder pin (10) into the work tool. Remove the lifting sling after the cylinder pin is secure.

  1. Start the engine of the host machine.

  1. Rotate the work tool until the jaws are pointing toward the host machine with the work tool near the ground. Position the moveable jaw at the top.

  1. Stop the engine of the host machine.

  1. Install the nut (11) onto the cylinder pin. Torque the nut to 300 N·m (221 lb ft). Loosen the nut until a set of locking bolt holes are aligned with the holes in the nut (11). Use the tool-wrench to tighten the nuts. Refer to table 5 for additional information.

  1. Install the six locking bolts (12) and the six lock washers into the three nuts (9) and (11). Tighten the locking bolts. Torque the bolts to 270 ± 40 N·m (199 ± 30 lb ft).

  1. Lubricate the work tool. Refer to, "Bushings-Lubricate" and, "Gear and Bearing-Lubricate" for additional information.

  1. Start the engine of the host machine.

  1. Open and close the jaws in order to check the function of the jaw set.

  1. Stop the engine of the host machine.

Note: Do not use the tank shear jaw set to cut beams.

Out-of-balance Loads

In order to prevent rotation of the work tool that is not wanted, do not exceed the rating for an out-of-balance load. For more information on out-of-balance loads, refer to operation and maintenance manual, "Specifications".

Lifting Objects

Refer to the load charts in the Operation and Maintenance Manual of the host machine. Use the load charts and account for the mass of the work tool. Calculate the load capacity of your specific host machine and the work tool.
