This Special Instruction is used for the installation of the migration kits on 320E and 323E Excavators. All the components listed in this Special Instruction are included in the migration kits.

Wear goggles, gloves, protective clothing, and a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) approved P95 or N95 half-face respirator when handling a used Diesel Particulate Filter or Catalytic Converter Muffler. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.

Do NOT use electrical components (ECM or sensors) or electronic component grounding points for grounding the welder.


Instructions for Ordering Migration/ Decertification Emissions Labels

  1. Log on to the "Emissions Regulation and Conformance" website at the following web address:

  2. Click Option 3. Tier 4 Migration/Decertification.

  3. Click "Migration / Decertification Request – C7.1 and below".

  4. The Migration / Decertification Request form will appear. All fields marked with an "*" must be completed.

    Note: Requests that do not have the decertification serial number included in "Section 5" and do not have the box checked which confirms that applicable local and national regulations permit the engine to be decertified will be rejected.

  5. Proceed to TMI to determine the current "Engine Arrangement Number".

    1. Enter the machine serial number in the "Reference Number" field.

Conversion Procedure


NOTICE

Drain water in fuel system water separator every 10 hrs or daily as indicated in the maintenance interval chart located inside the cab.


Note: When replacing the fuel system primary filter (water separator) element, torque the water level sensor to 2.5 ± 0.5 N·m (22 ± 4.5 lb in). This equates to 1 to 1.5 turns after you feel resistance when tightening it by hand.

Note: Be sure not to over-torque the sensor, damage may occur to sensor.

  1. Remove the hoses assemblies and mounting hardware shown in Illustration 4. Retain bolts and washers for reuse with the installation of the new hose assemblies.

  3. Relocate the S·O·S valve using elbow assembly (11) as shown in Illustration 6.

  7. Install connector (16), adapter (17), pressure sensor (18), temperature sensor (19), elbow (20), and fuel filter assembly (21) in the locations shown in Illustration 11.

    Torque for temperature sensor (19) ... 20 ± 3 N·m (15 ± 2 lb ft)

  8. Fill the remaining open ports on the fuel filter base with three 307-2670 Plug As and torque the plugs to half torque.

  9. Install connector (25) in place of connector (9) removed in Step 1.

  10. Install hose (23) and route the hose as shown above. Connect the hose to elbow (20).

  11. Secure hose (23) in the locations shown using clips (24) and the mounting hardware retained from the removal of the old parts.

  12. Install hose (22) and connect the 90 degree hose end to connector (16).

  25. Mount the 479-8638 Plate As using bolts (51) and washers (562) threaded into the plate from the bottom side of the swing frame.

  26. Secure the 141-5138 Fuel Filter Base As onto the 479-8638 Plate As using bolts (39) and washers (40).

  27. Install filter base cover (43) using the following parts: gasket (44), bolt (41), washer (42), bolt (51) and washer (52).

  28. Install adapter assembly (45), adapter assembly (46), and adapters and pressure sensors (48). Orient adapter assembly (45) and (46) at a 90 degree vertical angle as shown.

  13. Connect to the liquid level sensor connection with the harness connector consisting of the following wires: "G976-BU", "235-BK", and "147-PU".

  14. Secure the liquid level sensor harness in the new location using the parts shown in Illustration 31.

  1. Remove clamp (3) on the outlet side of the diesel particulate filter group, and remove the exhaust piping.

  2. Remove clamp (1) on the inlet side of the diesel particulate filter group, and disconnect the 362-9401 Bellows As.

  3. Remove the DPF inlet temperature sensor.

  4. Disconnect the wiring harness from the soot antennas.

  5. Disconnect straps (2) to remove the diesel particulate filter group.

  6. Attach a suitable lifting device to the DPF. The weight of the DPF is approximately 43 kg (95 lb).

  7. Remove the 380-9169 Diesel Particulate Filter Gp.

  8. Loosen slip joint clamp (4) so the flexible piping can be manipulated during the installation process.

  9. Install the new muffler assembly onto the DPF support bracket.

  10. Position the muffler assembly and tighten strap groups (3) to a torque of 15 +3/-0 N·m (11 +2/-0 lb ft)

  11. Orient the flexible pipe and torque clamp (1) to a torque of 35 ± 2 N·m (26 ± 1.5 lb ft) using a wrench with a maximum speed of 75 rpm.

  12. Torque clamp (4) to a torque of 55 ± 8 N·m (41 ± 6 lb ft) using a wrench with a maximum speed of 75 rpm.

  13. Reinstall the exhaust piping removed in Step 1 and torque clamp (3) to a torque of 68 ± 4 N·m (50 ± 3 lb ft).

    Note: Ensure that the exhaust pipe orientation is the same as when the pipe was removed.

Engine Electrical System Conversion

Conversion Procedure

  1. Disconnect the 8-pin engine aftertreatment connection. Refer to Electrical Schematic, UENR0487, "Connector Location - Chassis and Engine" - "CONN 36".

  2. Remove wiring harness (1) and all the hardware used to secure the harness. When removing the harness reroute into the pump compartment.

  3. Continue removing wiring harness (1) along with all the hardware used to secure the harness.

  4. Disconnect the harness at location (2). Install a 342-2974 Connector Cap in place of the removed wiring harness connector.

  5. Disconnect the harness connection (5) from soot sensor module (4) and cap the connector with a 342-2974 Connector Cap. Refer to Electrical Schematic, "Component Location - Chassis and Engine" - "Sensor - Soot (113)".

  6. The soot sensor module is no longer required. Remove soot sensor module (4) and soot sensor antenna wires (5). Also, remove all the hardware used to secure the soot sensor module and soot sensor antenna wires.

Engine Software

Note: When migration kit rework has been completed, the technician must confirm that the latest machine software and monitor software is installed. If not, the latest machine software and monitor software must be installed at the same time as the new engine software.

Note: Factory passwords are required to install the decertification flash file

  1. Download the decertification flash file from Service Information System (SIS). Refer to Table 11.

  2. Factory passwords will be issued utilizing the Dealer Solution Network (DSN).

  3. When the decertification flash file is downloaded, this screen will appear in the electronic service tool. Refer to Illustration 37.

  4. Click on "Save to File". This will create an HTML file.

  5. Attach the HTML file to the DSN factory password request. Do not change the file to a PDF format.

  6. The following text must be included in the DSN factory password request:

    This password request is for the decertification procedure outlined in Special Instruction, M0066742. I acknowledge that the applicable local and national regulations permit engine serial number <enter engine serial number> to be decertified, and I will ensure export from the country if the decertified machine no longer complies with local or national regulations governing the sale and/or use of the machine. The labels to confirm this decertification have been ordered and will be applied as per Special Instruction, M0066742.

    Note: Any service requests for passwords that do not contain the above verbiage will be rejected

  7. Once the factory passwords have been entered, install the flash file. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Flash Programming"

Machine Labels

The certified emissions labels are located in the machine cab and on the engine block. These labels must be removed. The new decertified emissions labels must then be installed in the machine cab and on the engine block. Refer to the information below for label removal and installation instructions.

Removing Adhesive Labels


NOTICE

Do not install the new film over the old film. Layered labels compromise label adhesion and durability. Adhesive films must be applied to a clean, dry, smooth painted surface. Surface temperature should be between 15° C (59° F) and 27° C (80.6° F).


  1. Remove film (1) and film (2). Refer to Illustration 38. Discard the pieces.

  2. Clean the surface with a 1:1 mixture of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and water. Use a clean, lint-free paper towel to remove all dirt and adhesive from the surface. Allow the surface to dry before installing the replacement films.

    Note: Never use acetone (propanone) to clean the engine or label surface.

Applying Adhesive Labels

  1. Carefully remove the new 464-9060 Film from the backing. Immediately apply the label in place of (1). Refer to Illustration 38 for the correct position.

    Note: Film (2) will not be replaced.

    Note: Avoid trapping air bubbles under the label material.

  2. Apply pressure to entire label to ensure adhesion.

  3. Wait at least 60 minutes before disturbing the labels.

Removing the Engine Serial Number Plate

  1. Remove the engine serial number plate from the cylinder block. Refer to Illustration 41. Ensure that the surface is smooth before applying the new plate

  2. Clean the surface with a 1:1 mixture of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and water. Use a clean, lint-free paper towel to remove all dirt and adhesive from the surface. Allow the surface to dry before installing the replacement labels.

    Note: Never use acetone (propanone) to clean the engine or label surface.

Applying the New Engine Serial Number Plate

  1. Use Tooling (A) on the cylinder block. Refer to Illustration 41 for the correct position.

  2. Use Tooling (B) to apply the new engine serial number plate to the cylinder block. Hold the label in position for at least 3 minutes.

  3. Wait at least 6 hours before disturbing the new engine serial number plate.

Disabling the Product Link Lockout

If Product Link Japan is installed on migrated machine, the machine lockout system must be disabled. This disable configuration setting is needed to prevent the engine start limitation.

  1. Access to machine ECM configuration in AVSpare Electronic Technician (Cat ® ET).

  2. Change the "Machine Lockout System Installation Status" to the setting of "Not Installed".
