PROBLEM

The boom assembly may crack at or near the boom foot, and the stick assembly may crack at the stick foot boss on certain 345B, 345B Series II, and W345B Series II Material Handlers.

Booms may develop cracks on the top, bottom, or side plates near the boom foot and if not addressed may fail. Also, sticks may develop cracks in the welds that hold the stick foot boss in place, and if not addressed may cause the stick foot boss to pull out of the stick, and cause contingent damage to stick cylinders.

This is an initial order recommendation only, and the ultimate responsibility for ordering the total number of parts needed to satisfy the program lies with the dealer.

ACTION REQUIRED

If you have a machine that is listed in the Affected Product, contact AVSpare Service Engineer, Jin-Young Kim (Kim) at (630) 859-5945 or email at: Kim_Jin_Y@cat.com. When contacting AVSpare, please provide the following information:

a. machine serial number
b. machine smu reading
c. boom as. part number w/ serial number (located on plate at the base of the boom)
d. stick as. part number w/ serial number (located on plate at the stick nose)
e. digital photo's of any contingent damage (cracks, damaged plates, brackets, etc)

The AVSpare Representative will inform you when there is a complete reworked front structure available. AVSpare will provide the approximate hours on the structure, and suggest a machine by serial number to exchange fronts.

Note: If there is a crack in either the boom or stick foot casting, the structure will be scrapped.

The dealer should contact the customer to ensure they can shut the machine down for the exchange. The dealer will then let the AVSpare representative know a scheduled date. AVSpare will ensure that the reworked structures will be delivered on or before that date.

After joint agreement is made with AVSpare, the dealer contact should provide the boom and stick part numbers and respective serial numbers, and any information on damaged areas of the existing structures, as stated previous.

The Dealer will then coordinate field technicians to do the Removal & Installation for the front structures by using Disassembly and Assembly Manual, SENR1934. The dealer is to reuse the existing hydraulic lines and tubes, but should replace seals. It is also encouraged to replace seals on bearings, and shims as needed, according to the SIS instructions.

AVSpare will coordinate and pay for all transportation costs to deliver and pick up structures to be reworked.
