The retention plates of front linkage pins at the boom foot and nose on 345B and 345BL Series II Excavators may be cracked due to excessive rotational force acting on the pins. This may cause the pins and bearings to be abnormally worn out, and eventually fractured.

PARTS DISPOSITION

Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling.

Rework Procedure

Refer to the service manual Disassembly And Assembly Manual, SENR1934, before starting the rework.

1.Remove the boom and stick from the machine.

2.Remove the boom foot pin boss from the upper frame. Grind the area smooth. Weld a new 234-3941 Boss to the new position. Image 1.3.1 shows new position of the boss.

3.Remove the existing bearings from boom foot boss and install new 228-5622 Bearings with 9X-4600 Seals.

4.Remove the boom nose pin boss from the boom nose bracket. Grind the boss removed area smooth. Weld the new 234-4706 or 235-7612 Boss to the new position. Image 1.5.1
shows new position of the boss.

Note: There are two types of boom nose bracket, casting or forging and fabricated bracket. 234-4706 Boss is for casting or forging bracket and 235-7612 Boss is for fabricated bracket.

5.Remove the existing bearings from the stick pivot boss and install a new 228-5621 Bearings with 9X-4599 Seals.

6.Install the boom and stick in position on the machine, using new 234-3942 Pin for boom foot and 235-7567 or 235-7736 Pin for boom nose with 7X-2573 Bolts, 8T-4167 Hard Washers and 201-2771 Washers.

Note: A different boom nose pin is used depending on the boom type. The 235-7567 Pin is for the reach boom and 235-7736 Pin is for the mass boom. Refer to the Parts Needed, Group 1 for the machines with reach boom and Group 2 for the machines with mass boom. 7X-2573 Bolts, 201-2771 Washers, and 8T-4167 Hard Washers are commonly used at all places.
