PROBLEM
Show/hide table
The existing bolts that retain the flexcoupling can become loose and break on certain M313C, M315C, M316C, M318C, M322C, M315D, M316D, M318D, and M322D wheeled excavators. If the existing 7X-3174 bolt breaks it will cause the coupling to fail, and no hydraulic function from the main pump will work. |

ACTION REQUIRED
Show/hide table
1. Release the hydraulic pressure from the hydraulic system. 2. M313C, M316C, & M316D: Remove the hydraulic fan pump from the swing pump to have enough room to remove the main pump. Follow the instructions in the Disassembly & Assembly for your model. 3. M300D-Series Models: Loosen the bolts holding the exhaust tube to the turbo and remove the muffler and muffler bracket from the machine. 4. Loosen the bolts holding the main hydraulic pump to the engine and push the pump toward the counterweight to gain access to the flex coupling (Image 1). Follow the instructions in the Disassembly & Assembly for your model. 5. Remove each of the bolts holding the coupling to the flywheel, add thread lock (Cat Thread Lock, ref 9S-3263 / 185-3996 or Loctite 242 or 243), insert the new bolt and tighten to a torque of 47 +/- 5 Nm. Use the torque sequence in the Disassembly & Assembly if you choose to remove all the bolts at the same time. 6. Follow the instruction in the Disassembly & Assembly manual for your machine to reassemble the main pump and fan pump (if necessary) to the engine. 7. Check for leaks after restarting the engine and operating the machine at an operating temperature (> 45C). |
