The 130-0484 and 9R-0234 Tapered Pin for the lower swing frame joint may prematurely fail on certain 416D, 420D, and 430D Backhoe Loaders. An improved tapered pin is available. |

Remove all 130-0484 from dealer parts stock. |
A new 300-5442 Pin has improved fatigue life by increasing heat treat area and also increased the radius at thread base from .8 to 3mm. Refer to the attached Rework Procedure. Before Failure: Replacing the tapered pin and hardware prior to cracks or breaking of the tapered pin. Use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. After Failure: Replacing the pin and hardware after the tapered pin has cracked, broken or come loose. If the pin has come loose, inspect the taper bore in the swing casting before fitting a new pin. If the bore has been significantly damaged, the swing casting must be replaced. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code. |

Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, RENR3585, "Swing Frame-Install". Note: When installing the new pin, the taper pin bore must be cleaned with degreaser to remove grease or protective coatings. The bore and the taper of the pin then must be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol prior to assembly. Tighten the lower swing frame pin nut to a torque of 1250 +/- 135 N.m (922 +/- 100 lb ft). Place the rear implements in the position shown below in Image 1.1.1 to apply torque to the nut. NOTE: The swing frame lock pin must be installed when applying torque to the nut. |

Cycle the swing cylinders 10 times with the backhoe positioned as shown in Image 1.2.1. Cycle the swing cylinders without hitting the frame with the swing casting. |
