PROBLEM
The 130-0484 and 9R-0234 Tapered Pin for the lower swing frame joint may prematurely fail on certain 416E, 420E and 430E Backhoe Loaders. An improved tapered pin is available. |

A new 300-5440 Pin has improved fatigue life by increasing the heat treatment area and also the radius at the thread base was increased to 3mm. Refer to the attached Rework Procedure. |

Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, RENR6485, "Swing Frame-Install". Note: When installing the new pin, the taper pin bore must be cleaned with degreaser to remove grease or protective coatings. The bore and taper area of the pin then must be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol prior to assembly. Tighten the lower swing frame pin nut to a torque of 1250 +/- 135 Nm (922 +/- 100 lb ft). Place the rear implements in the position shown below in Image 1.1.1 to apply torque to the nut. Note: The swing frame lock pin must be installed when applying torque to the nut. |

Cycle the swing cylinders 10 times with the backhoe positioned as shown in Image 1.2.1. Cycle the swing cylinders without hitting the frame with the swing casting. |
