PROBLEM

Excessive deflection or deformation of the stick cylinder flange due to high snubbing pressures in the cylinder may cause failure of the backup ring and the seal, and result in leakage of hydraulic fluid from the head to cylinder assembly joint.

Rework Procedure

Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly Manual that is appropriate for your machine.

1. Remove the stick cylinder group from the machine.

2. Disassemble the stick cylinder group by removing the head assembly and the rod assembly from the cylinder assembly.

(B) 190.0 +/- 0.1 mm (7.4803 +/- 0.004 inch)

3. If there have been repeated seal failures or the seal failure occurred at low hours, replacement of the cylinder assembly is recommended.

4. Measure the inside diameter of the cylinder barrel at the joint for the head seal. The specification for the inside diameter is 190.0 +/- 0.1 mm (7.4803 +/- 0.004 inch). If the inside diameter of the cylinder barrel is oversize, the old cylinder assembly must be replaced by a 225-4626 Cylinder Assembly.

5. Install a new 095-1730 O-Ring Seal and a new 126-1978 Backup Ring in the cylinder head. Use 1U6396 O-Ring Compound.

Reassemble the stick cylinder group. Perform a bench test and make sure that the stick cylinder group does not leak. Reinstall the stick cylinder group on the machine.
