The 101-1806 Bolts need to be inspected and or replaced on certain 422E, 428E, 432E, 434E, 442E, and 444E Backhoe Loaders. The existing 101-1806 Bolts may fracture under the head of the bolt resulting in the head separating from the shank.

Rework Procedure

***** Inspect bolt identification *****

The bolts that are affected by this rework are the two larger bolts at the top of the slide frame casting. Part number 101-1806. See Image 1.1.1

Look at the head of the 101-1806 Bolt. Under the "AVS" marking, there are other numbers/letters.

If the single letter "C" is found, then the bolt needs to be replaced with a new 177-9755 Bolt.

If "CF", "T", or anything else is found, then the bolt is OK and does not need replacing.

See Images 1.2.1, 1.2.2, and 1.2.3 for example of bolt head markings.

NOTE: Machines not listed in this service letter may still have "C" markings. These machines DO NOT have suspect bolts and should NOT be changed.

***** Bolt replacement *****

Park the machine in a suitable area on firm level ground.
Lower all implements and stabilizer legs to the ground.
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "Hydraulic System Pressure ? Release".

Working one bolt at a time, remove the 101-1806 Bolt and replace with a new 177-9755 Bolt. The new 177-9755 Bolt is approx 10mm longer than the original bolt. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 1600 +/- 200 N.m (1179 +/- 147 lb / ft).
