PROBLEM

The existing 7y1106 Boot can fail on certain 365C Excavators due to possible misalignment of swivel and swing bearing axis. Excessive misalignment may imply breakage of the swivel boot which will allow contamination of the swing bearing grease box and possible premature wear of the swing gear.

ACTION REQUIRED

Check the runout between swivel and swing bearing. If the runout is equal or more then 4 mm (runout), the cover assembly supporting the swivel has to be reworked and swivel boot must be replaced.
The following procedure explains how to measure the runout and rework the cover assembly to fix the problem when needed.

Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling.

Rework Procedure

Runout measurement:
Runout between 2 boot retainers on frame and swivel must be measured on a full swing frame rotation (see Image 1.1.1). This gives the alignment error between swing bearing axis and swivel axis (see Image 1.1.2).
If runout is less then 4 mmn, no additional action is needed.
If runout is equal or greater then 4 mm the cover assembly must be reworked and swivel boot must be replaced.
Follow the procedure below.
Image1.1.1
Image1.1.2

Check the boot. If the boot is cracked, please check swing bearing grease box for contamination. In case of contamination and swing gear wear, contact Hydraulic Excavator Product Support, Olivier Dufour at Dufour_Olivier @ cat.com for further instructions.

Runout equal or greater then 4 mm:
Procedure to rework the cover assembly.
The cover assembly is welded on the carbody ring.
Fabricate the template fixture as shown in Image 1.2.1.
Swing the machine in order to align track roller frames and upper frame correctly.
Track motor must be at the rear of the machine in this aligned position.
Remove swing drives, swing drive lines, swivel, swivel lines and boot. Follow your Disassembly and Assembly manual to proceed.
Image1.2.1

Attach the template fixture on the boot bolt pattern on the bottom plate of the upper frame with three 8t4195 Bolts M10x1.5 used to attach the boot on the bottom plate of the upper frame.
Take care to place the template in the FRONT direction of the upper frame. See FRONT of template on Image 1.2.1. See boot bolt pattern on upper frame seen from the top
on Image 1.3.2.
Tighten these 3 bolts to a torque of 55 +/- 10 N.m.(See Image 1.3.1).
Image1.3.1
Image1.3.2

The 5 holes dia. 18 mm are the guides to drill the correct bolt pattern on the
cover assembly which is just below on the carbody.
Drill the 5 holes dia 18 mm into the cover assembly using the template fixture to position the drill bit correctly (see Image 1.4.1).
Image1.4.1

Grind the central hole of the cover to avoid interference with new correct bolt pattern (See Image 1.5.1) using the central hole of the template fixture as a guide.

Remove template fixture, reassemble new boot, swivel, swivel lines, swing drives and swing drive lines following your assembly manual.
