Rework Procedure

If an oil leak is found coming from the rear axle trumpet housing, use this procedure to repair the trumpet housing. There are four chaplets on each trumpet housing (Image1.1.1) for a total of eight that may be leaking. This procedure should be applied to ALL eight chaplets.
Image1.1.1

Refer to the Service Manual if/as necessary.

1. Raise and block the rear of the machine so safe access to the rear axle can be achieved.
2. Remove oil drain plug and completely drain the oil from the differential.
3. Remove the oil residue and dirt from the trumpet housings.
4. With a grinder tool remove the layer of paint over the chaplet areas (Image1.2.1) to reveal the iron and the circular shape of the chaplets.
Image1.2.1

5.Grind a groove approximately 0.5 to 1.0 MM (0.020 to 0.039 inches) deep around the diameter of the chaplet (Image1.3.1) in order to create a rough surface where the epoxy can firmly bond.
Image1.3.1

6. Blow air on the source of the oil leak to direct the oil to the inside of the axle (Image1.4.1).
Image1.4.1

7. Thoroughly clean and degrease the surface where the putty will be applied (Image1.5.1).
Image1.5.1

8. Use the instructions provided with the epoxy to mix the compound.
9. Apply the mixed compound to each of the chaplet areas, firmly working the material into the surface (Image1.6.1). Create a MINIMUM of 2MM (0.079inch) thick layer that completely covers the circular chaplet area.
Image1.6.1

10. Allow the epoxy to fully cure.
11. Repaint the repaired areas.
12. Fill the differential with oil and lower the machine back to the ground.
