This Program must be administered either before or after failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS42839" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

PROBLEM

The pin assemblies on certain 330D and 336D Excavators may have been incorrectly manufactured. This incorrect operation may lead to failure of the pin assembly. The affected machines will need to be inspected for the incorrectly manufactured pin assemblies. Pin assemblies found to be incorrectly manufactured will need to be replaced with a new pin assembly.

ACTION REQUIRED

Inspect the affected pin assemblies and replace if necessary. Refer to the attached Rework Procedure.

NOTE: Depending on the inspection results, the completion of this repair may require up to two (2) 113-2963 Pin Assemblies and/or one (1) 5I-3299 Pin Assembly. Only order parts that are required for replacement.

NOTE: Pin assemblies in AVSpare parts or dealer inventory are not affected by this issue. This issue only applies to the pin assemblies installed at the factory on the affected product.

Rework Procedure


 
Prior to starting any work on the machine, please review, understand and adhere to all safety and environmental warnings in the appropriate disassembly and assembly manual.
 
Inspection Procedure:

1. Incorrectly manufactured pin assemblies can be identified by a resistance weld to the pin flag. Correctly manufactured pin assemblies are inertia welded to the pin flag.

2. Inspect pin assemblies at location PT-3, PT-5, and PT-6.

Pin Replacement Procedure:

1.Remove the suspect pin assembly and install new pin assembly for PT-3 and PT-5. For more information, refer to Disassembly and Assembly instructions, RENR8648, for "Stick Cylinder - Remove and Install".

2. Remove the suspect pin assembly and install new pin assembly for PT-6. For more information, refer to Disassembly and Assembly instructions, RENR8648, for "Bucket Cylinder - Remove and Install".
