Problem
There have been several instances of cracking at the weld between the top plate and the side plates of the hydraulic tank. This problem is the result of poor weld penetration and insufficient weld material used during fabrication of the tank.
Affected Product
Model Identification Number 214 B 4CF00195 to 466 214 B FT 9MF00092 to 370 213 B 1EJ00157 to 320 NOTE: Starting Serial Numbers are approximate as we have been unable to define exact unit when fabrication procedure was changed.
Parts Needed
No parts are required for this rework except for welding rods. HEBE1397
Action Required
Whenever cracks are detected between the top and the side plates of the hydraulic tank, disassembly of the tank is necessary to add a welding cord on the inside of the top plate. The complete repair procedure outlines the steps involved. NOTE: W A R N I N G Applying heat to a tank which has held flammable liquids, even when "empty", can result in the residual flammable liquid or vapor igniting with explosive force. This can result in injury or death. DO NOT weld or flame cut on any tank that has held flammable liquid without taking the proper precautions. Please refer to Service Magazine dated July 2, 1990 for proper instructions BEFORE performing the repair.

Rework Procedure
WARNING: BEFORE STARTING THE REPAIR, PLEASE REFER TO THE INSTRUCTIONS OUTLINED IN THE SERVICE MAGAZINE DATED JULY 2, 1990 FOR PROPER WELDING PROCEDURES ON HYDRAULIC TANKS. 1 - Remove the hydraulic tank following instructions in the Service Manual. 2 - Remove the bottom plate of the tank by grinding the weld cords. 3 - Add welding from inside and between the top and the side plates. Please refer to the attached drawing for weld location and dimensions. Use E7018 electrodes (AVSpare Part Number 1U5231 to 1U5236). 4 - Allow the weld cord to cool down. 5 - Grind cracked welds on the outside until you have a clean surface. 6 - Weld on the outside using the same grade electrodes mentioned at step 3. 7 - Grind the outside weld to give a clean appearance. 8 - Carefully clean the inside of the tank to remove any residual hydraulic oil or weld deposits. 9 - Weld back the bottom plate by using the same electrodes mentioned at step 3 and 6. Please refer to the attached drawing for weld size. 10 - Paint the hydraulic tank. 11 - Install the tank.
