(3) Dial Indicator

1. Set a dial indicator with the point on the camshaft.

2. Move the cam gear to the front and rear to measure the side clearance.
   Show/hide table

   Side clearance of camshaft (New)	0.070 mm (0.0028 inch) to 0.22 mm (0.0086 inch)
   Allowable limit	0.30 mm (0.012 inch)

3. If the measurement is more than the allowable limit, replace the camshaft stopper.

(4) Dial Indicator (5) V Blocks

1. Hold the two end journals of camshaft with V blocks on the surface plate.

2. Set a dial indicator with the point on the middle journal.

3. Turn the camshaft slowly and read the variation on the indicator.

   Allowable limit of camshaft bend

   0.01 mm (0.0004 inch)

4. If the measurement is more than the allowable limit, replace the camshaft.

(6) External Micrometer

1. Measure the height of the cam at the highest point with an external micrometer.

   Refer to Table 4 for the specifications for naturally aspirated engines.

   Allowable limit	33.85 mm (1.333 inch)
   Camshaft height of exhaust (New)	33.90 mm (1.335 inch)
   Allowable limit	33.85 mm (1.333 inch)

   Table 5 contains specifications for the turbocharged engines.

1. Measure the camshaft journal outside diameter with an external micrometer.

2. Measure the cylinder block bore for the camshaft with a cylinder gauge.

   40.000 mm (1.5748 inch) to 40.025 mm (1.5757 inch)

3. Calculate the oil clearance.

   Oil clearance for camshaft journal (New)	0.050 mm (0.0020 inch) to 0.091 mm (0.0035 inch)
   Allowable limit	0.15 mm (0.0059 inch)

4. If the oil clearance is more than the allowable limit, replace the camshaft.
