(1) Tighten the bolts to 420 ± 60 N·m (310 ± 44 lb ft). Tighten the bolts to an additional 60° ± 5°.

(2) Apply 1U-8846 Gasket Sealant to the flange of the gear.

(3) After installing the six pins, stake the pins at two places. Refer to View A for the location of the stake marks.

Use the following procedure to adjust the preload of bearing (4) :

  1. Place a load "P" of 4000 kg (8820 lb) on bearing (4) .

  1. Rotate the housing (10) in order to seat the bearing.

  1. Reduce load "P" to 1000 ± 100 kg (2200 ± 220 lb).

  1. Measure dimension (A) .

  1. Measure dimension (B) on the stopper (8) .

  1. Calculate the installation dimension (C) by subtracting dimension (B) from dimension (A) .(C=A-B).

  1. Apply 9S-3263 Thread Lock Compound to threads and install the stopper to the installation dimension (C) at ± 0.05 mm (± 0.002 inch).

  1. After adjustment, stake the flange of the stopper (8). This will help to place the stopper in the groove of the thread of the housing (10) .

(4) Apply 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound to the surfaces that are in contact with the bearings.

(5) At assembly, O-rings of floating seal and all surfaces in contact with the O-rings must be clean and dry. Apply a thin coat of oil on the contacting surfaces of the metal seals before installation.

(6) Install the proper plate for a clearance (X) of 2.0 mm (0.08 inch). Refer to Illustration 2.

Measure dimension (D). Measure dimension (E). Refer to Illustration 2. Calculate the clearance (X) by subtracting dimension (E) from dimension (D). (X=D-E).

(7) Torque for plug ... 80 ± 10 N·m (60 ± 7 lb ft)
