5230B Excavator Machine Electronic Control System Travel Brake Function Caterpillar

Travel Brake Function
`

The travel brake function engagesand disengages the travel brake. The travel brake prevents the machine travel when the ladder or the service console are down. The travel brake will not turn ON if the ladder or the service console fall to the down position. The ECM controls the travel brake. The items that are listed below control the travel brake:

  • The ladder position switch

  • The service console's position

  • The operator's request

The default setting of the travel brake is engaged. The travel brake disengages only when the travel brake solenoid is energized. Whenever the ladder or the service console are down at powerup, the travel brake will be ON.

When the operator makes a request for travel and the ladder is up, the ECM will disengage the travel brake. When the operator stops requesting machine travel, the ECM engages the travel brake.

When the ladder or the service console move from the DOWN to the UP and the operator is requesting travel, the travel brake remains engaged until the operator stops the request for 0.5 seconds.
