450E Backhoe Loader |
The FNR Shift Handle - Autoshift consists of one main electronic control module (ECM) and the shift handle. The system consists of the Machine Electronic Control Module (ECM) and the shift handle. The Machine ECM energizes six solenoids for the Autoshift transmission in order to control the speed and the direction of the transmission. The system automatically selects the transmission gear in response to the speed of the machine in the AUTO mode. AUTO mode provides the most efficient operation that is within the maximum limit of the gear that is selected. The shift lever control module is the operator interface. The lever is used in order to request a speed and a direction. The shift handle communicates over the Cat Data Link to the Machine ECM.

FNR Shift Handle - Autoshift |
The machine electronic control module shifts the transmission. The following components are used by the control module:
- Transmission Speed Sensor
- Shift Lever - FNR Autoshift
- Switches
- Output Drivers
The backhoe loader shall have the following transmission configuration:
- Five (5) Speed Autoshift - On/Off, electronic control over the forward high, forward low, reverse and three speed clutch solenoids, & transmission output speed sensor.
The Autoshift transmission uses the twist grip shift lever, which is column mounted.
The transmission system reads several inputs in order to control transmission gear, transmission direction, and transmission shifting. The transmission electronic control system consists of the following components:
- Machine Electronic Control Module
- Auto/Manual Switch
- Neutral Lock Switch
- Shift Lever Control Module - FNR Autoshift
- Neutralizer/Downshift Switch
- Parking Brake Switch
- Transmission Speed Sensor
- Transmission Solenoids
- Ride Control Switch
- Ride Control Disable Switch
- Ride Control Relay
The switches, the sensors, and the shift lever for the FNR Shift Handle - Autoshift provide input to the machine electronic control module. The control module processes the information. The control module then activates the appropriate transmission solenoids.
The FNR Shift Handle contains electronics. The electronics communicate the direction and the gear that is selected to the Machine ECM.
Actuation of the neutralizer/downshift switch will signal the Machine ECM to neutralize the transmission. When the transmission is neutralized, only the speed clutch solenoid is active. The speed clutch solenoid and the direction solenoid must be energized in order to place the machine in gear.
