September 2002 CHANGES TO TURBOCHARGER CORE ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA Announcement AVSpare Remanufactured Products Group is announcing changes to the core acceptance criteria for turbochargers and cartridges (SELD0028-03). These changes have come about as a result of Cat and TEPS dealers? input to establish clearer criteria for easier determination of core category. Effective September 16, 2002 the new core acceptance criteria removes the one level reduction in core refund as a penalty for Non-Operational Damage. In the past non-operational damage resulted in a partial or no core credit. Since there is a wide range of circumstances involved in removing and handling cores, any non-operational damage will now result in a partial core credit. Further, dealers are no longer required to make distinction between Foreign Object Damage (FOD) and Wheel Rub on the turbine wheel. Dealers do not need to determine the cause of turbine wheel damage. This eliminates grading category uncertainty. Any turbine wheel damage, regardless of the cause, will result in a partial credit. In CCR form, use DWHL as discrepancy code to report damage turbine wheel. The new core acceptance criteria continues to use the same visual inspection with a flashlight, and requires no disassembly of turbocharger group. This new criteria provides clearer guidelines for core inspection. Effective Dates and Media Availability The new core acceptance criteria (SELD0028-04) will be effective at all Cat? core inspection facilities as of September 16, 2002 for all turbocharger groups and cartridges. The new criteria will be available on the dealer extranet at https://reman.cat.com effective September 1, 2002. In addition to this website, copies of the revised criteria will be mailed to holders of the Remanfactured Products Guide. Dealers can also order the revised criteria (SELD0028-04) through normal literature order. Applicability The new Turbocharger ?Groups and Cartridges Core Acceptance Criteria (SELD0028-04) is not applicable to ABB turbochargers and cartridges, which are covered under SELD0124-01.
