REMAN EMISSIONS LABELING
Purpose
To clarify what is needed to meet the California Air Resources Board (CARB) 2007 on-highway labeling requirements
New vs. Reman labeling
New
engines are all emissions tested and include an emissions certification label spelling out the engine family certification that qualified that engine as conforming to U.S. EPA and California Regulations. (see sample below)
Reman engine labeling was also revised in 2007 after the language was approved by California Air Resource Board (CARB). The 313-6437 label was released at that time to address the California emissions labeling requirements that went into effect in 2007. The new label is similar to the previously used 4W-9472 label but has an additional 3
rd section with reference information to the certified engine family and model year that the reman engine was built to. (see 3rd section sample below)

Off-road engines will also include the following label stating the engine was built with matched components to those of a certified tier level engine. It clarifies that these Reman engines are not to be used to replace any higher tier level engine.
Incomplete engines (short blocks & long blocks) are shipped with a similar label identifying the Tier level the original engine was certified for. (see sample below)
Process for ordering replacement labels
Because labels can be lost or defaced and to support dealers who may be rebuilding these engines and needing a fresh label, there is replacement label ordering process. Requests for duplicate replacement labels for Reman engines should be submitted through the Replacement Engine Label Request processes at:
https://largepower.cat.com/cda/layout?m=103845&x=7The request will be sent to our engine facility and a new engine ID plate will be shipped directly to the dealer submitting the request.
If additional information is needed?
The Reman labels meet the current regulations. The specific emissions certification family number will not be placed on a tag which would imply that the Reman engine itself was certified. It can be provided through an email if the reference certification family (ex. KCT0636EPB1) is needed for other reasons (ex. paperwork to seek repower funding). An email request should go to:
enginecertification@cat.comThe request should include the following information which is included on the Reman Serial Number plate:
Reman Ser. No.: (ex. 8ES03506) Reman Ar. No: (ex. 0R4855)
Ref. Ser No.: (ex. 8YL22326) Ref. Ar. No.: (ex 1771162)
