REVISION TO CYLINDER HEAD CAC (AMERICAS DISTRIBUTION VERSION ONLY)
Announcement
SELD0287 Cylinder Heads has been revised to now allow credit for cores that were previously rejected when a UTN cylinder head is purchased. These changes were made to make the Reman UTN product an option to compete against aftermarket cylinder head sales. The changes only effect a Reman UTN transaction. There is no change to the criteria for a Reman transaction.
Summary of Changes
SELD0287 Cylinder Heads was revised to add a separate criteria section that applies specifically to Reman UTN transactions. The major change is that evidence of unapproved or unsuccessful salvage operations are now accepted for full core for a Reman UTN purchase. Cores that have had abrasive cleaning are also acceptable.
The Reman transaction criteria has not changed. It still will not allow credit for unapproved or unsuccessful salvage nor for cores that have had abrasive cleaning because those blocks are no longer useable for Reman.
The revised criteria also includes better descriptions of what constitutes approved, unapproved, and unsuccessful attempts to salvage. These are stated in the Inspection Tips section as follows:
Unapproved or Unsuccessful Attempts to Salvage
Any evidence of an unsuccessful attempt to salvage (Definition: salvage process performed and core returned without having been put back into operation) will result in No Core Refund except when returned as core for a Reman UTN transaction. Examples include but are not limited to: milling, grinding, welding, or abrasive cleaning, etc. (See Figure 3). A successful salvage to the cylinder head casting (reinstalled and operated on the engine after the salvage is performed) does not affect the core refund but the salvage must be an approved salvage operation. Examples of approved salvage would include welding or resurface machining. Unapproved salvage operations are those not published in a AVSpare salvage and reuse guideline. A cylinder head core with an unapproved salvage operation performed to it will qualify for core refund for the Reman UTN transaction only. Examples include but are not limited to: installation of water ferrule inserts, injector bore inserts, etc.
Recommended Action
Please ensure your service departments and PSSRs are made aware of these changes so they can talk to their customers about this change. We know there are customers who have walked away from a AVSpare solution when we could offer nothing for their cores. With the changes for a UTN transaction, the Reman UTN option can now be more attractive for most of those same customers.
