D9 IMPROVED
THRUST RING DESIGN
Summary
An improved D9 Thrust Ring is
now available through the parts system. It is also in the production of new
track link assemblies.
Affected Models
D9T
(S/N: RJS1-Up), D9R (S/N: ABK1-UP; ACL1-UP; 7TL1-Up; 8BL1-Up; WDM1-Up),
D9N (S/N: 1JD1-Up; 6XJ1-Up), D9L (S/N: 14Y1-Up), 589 (S/N:
31Z1-Up)
Benefits
Several changes have been implemented to reduce link counterbore wear.
?
Deeper oil grooves
to improve oil flow.
?
Oil grooves have an
improved radius blend onto face of the ring.
?
Oil grooves are
offset 90 degrees from one face to the other
?
Material has
additional heat treatment to reduce the hardness
?
Ring is oil dipped
to provide lubrication at initial assembly
Additional
Details
An improved thrust ring is now used in the
track link assemblies of the D9T Track-Type Tractor. Improvements in the thrust
ring are also available in the service replacement track link assemblies for the
D9T, D9R, D9L, and D9N Track-Type Tractors as well as for the 589 Pipelayers.

The new 352-9707 Thrust Ring is a direct replacement for the former 9W-2755
Thrust Ring in the track link assemblies that are listed in Table 2. The new
352-9707 Thrust ring is oil dipped to provide additional lubrication at initial
assembly.
The new 352-9708 Ring As is
available for parts service. The 352-9708 Ring As has a plastic facing that is
pre-applied to both sides of the thrust ring. The thrust ring that is used in
the ring assembly is not oil dipped.

Part numbers for PPR and
Non-PPR Track Link assemblies will remain the same. For all service replacement
track link assemblies that are listed in Table 2, the improved thrust ring is
effective with track link serial number PM090-Up.

Recommended Service
Practices (Improved Thrust Rings)
For the track link assemblies
built with the new thrust rings, rebuild the track link assembly with the new
352-9707 Thrust Rings or the new 352-9708 Ring As. If the dealer chooses to
install the optional plastic facing manually to the ring, then the oil dipped
352-9707 Thrust Ring can be rinsed with Stanisol and air-dried. Rinsing the
thrust ring with Stanisol and then air drying the thrust ring will allow the
plastic-facing to adhere to the thrust ring.
Recommended Service
Practices (Former Thrust Rings)
For the track link assemblies
built with the former thrust rings, reuse the former thrust rings if there is no
wear in the counterbore of the link. If there is wear in the counterbore of the
link, then replace the former 9W-2755 Thrust Rings with the new 352-9707 Thrust
Rings or 352-9708 Ring As. Refer to Undercarriage Reconditioning Bulletin,
SEBF8558, ?Guideline for Reusable Track Parts? in order to determine additional
parts that may need to be replaced.
