IMPROVED 953B/D5B SPROCKET SEGMENT

AVSpare now offers improved sprocket segments for 953B Track Type Loaders and D5B Track Type Tractors.  Improved segment has a new pocket and tooth profile, with additional ?pocket? wear material which will reduce sliding wear from the bushing, which will result in increased wear life on the segment and bushing.  Improved segment has an improved tip profile to reduce early hour ?tip rollover? wear.  This is also known as Forward or Reverse Drive Side Tip Wear and is prevalent on Hystat loaders.  It is largely cosmetic in nature, but causes segments to appear prematurely worn.  Pages 67 - 69 of the 14th Edition CTS Handbook, covers this in greater detail.  Figure 1 shows the new production segment, Figure 2 shows the former production segment and Figure 3 shows typical early hour side cosmetic tip wear.

FEATURES/BENEFITS

                       Features                                                                      Benefits

?         Improved pocket profile

?         Up to 30% increase in segment wear life.  Improved wear balance with the bushing.

?         Improved tooth profile

?         Reduced ?tip rollover? wear

The former segment is canceled and replaced by the new segment.  For maximum wear life and performance, we recommend using the improved segments as a set and not intermixed with the former segment.

SERVICING/ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

Proper installation of sprocket segments is critical in preventing segment loosening and subsequent loss/damage to other parts.  Install segments per the following guidelines:

1.      Lubricate the bolt threads with 5P3931 Anti-Seize Compound.

2.      Bolt heads against the segments, nuts against the final drive hub.

3.      Tighten all bolts to 175 +/- 40Nm (130+/- 30lb ft).

4.      Then tighten additional 1/3 turn.  This properly stretches the bolt for good retention.

CUSTOM TRACK SERVICE

Notice in Figure 5, the gauge indicates the sprocket can be reused, even though the tips of the teeth are cosmetically worn.  The gauge is designed to show this, and thus avoid premature changing of the sprocket segments.  Page 66 of the CTS handbook (14th edition) describes sprocket wear management in greater detail.
