Note: The main relief valve must be temporarily set before any line relief valve pressure setting is adjusted. Refer to "Temporary Setting of the Main Relief Valve" in Testing and Adjusting, "Relief Valve (Main) - Test and Adjust".
Test
- Position the machine on level ground.
- Stop the engine.
- Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".

To decrease the power shift pressure 200 kPa (29 psi), push the swing priority mode switch (C) and power mode switch (F) at the same time.
Note: Always use the pressure gauge that is connected to pressure tap (1) to monitor the actual power shift pressure.
Note: Refer to Service Manual, "Engine and Pump Electronic Control System" for additional information on Service Mode.
Note: To prevent a change in power shift pressure during line relief valve adjustment, do not turn the engine OFF.

- Place the machine controls at the following settings: Power Mode OFF, engine speed dial "10" and AEC switch OFF.
Note: The engine will not reach maximum no-load speed until the hydraulic tank pressure has reached the operating level.
Reference: Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Engine Performance - Test " for engine rpm settings.

The following line relief valves are located on top of the main control valve: boom cylinder head end, bucket cylinder head end and stick cylinder rod end.
The following line relief valves are located on the bottom of the main control valve: boom cylinder rod end, bucket cylinder rod end and stick cylinder head end.
Note: Return main relief valve pressure to the specification after testing and adjusting any line relief valve. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Specifications" for the main relief valve pressure setting.
Note: In order to cancel Service Mode, depress the following three buttons on the operator monitor panel at the same time: button for fine control (4), button for user mode (5) and travel alarm cancel switch (6). Hold all three buttons down for at least three seconds. If the engine switch key is placed in the OFF position for at least 75 ± 15 seconds, Service Mode will be cancelled.

Line relief valve (typical example) (10) Locknut (11) Adjustment screw |
Adjustment (Stick Cylinder)
- To adjust the line relief valve pressure setting of the stick cylinder rod end, move the stick control lever until the stick is at the full STICK OUT position (full retraction of stick cylinder).
- Check the pressure in the stick cylinder rod end on the pressure gauge at pressure tap (3). The relief valve for the stick cylinder rod end is located on top of the main control valve.
- Return the stick control lever to the NEUTRAL position.
- Loosen locknut (10) and turn adjustment screw (11) until the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (3) is 35300 to 38200 kPa (5120 to 5540 psi).
- To adjust the line relief valve pressure setting of the stick cylinder head end, move the stick control lever until the stick is at the full STICK IN position (full extension of stick cylinder).
- Check the pressure in the stick cylinder head end on the pressure gauge at pressure tap (3). The relief valve for the stick cylinder head end is located on the bottom of the main control valve.
- Return the stick control lever to the NEUTRAL position.
- Loosen locknut (10) and turn adjustment screw (11) until the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (3) is 35300 to 38200 kPa (5120 to 5540 psi).
- After completion of line relief valve adjustment, tighten locknut (10) .
Note: Turning adjustment screw (11) clockwise increases the pressure. Turning adjustment screw (11) counterclockwise decreases the pressure.
Note: Always make final pressure adjustment on pressure rise.
Adjustment (Grapple Cylinder)
- To adjust the line relief valve pressure setting of the head end of the grapple cylinder, move the grapple control lever until the grapple is at the full GRAPPLE CLOSE position. (This is the full extension of the grapple cylinder.)
- Check the pressure in the head end of the grapple cylinder on the pressure gauge at pressure tap (2). The relief valve for the head end of the grapple cylinder is located on top of the main control valve.
- Return the grapple control lever to the NEUTRAL position.
- Loosen locknut (10) and turn adjustment screw (11) until the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (2) is 26900 to 28275 kPa (3900 to 4100 psi).
- To adjust the line relief valve pressure setting of the grapple cylinder rod end, move the grapple control lever until the bucket is at the full GRAPPLE OPEN position (full retraction of grapple cylinder).
