Introduction

Two relief valves are located in the head of the swing motor. These relief valves limit the pressure in the left and right swing circuits to the swing relief valve settings. The following procedure will determine if the swing relief valves are out of adjustment.

Machine Preparation

  1. Position the machine on level ground and stop the engine.

  2. Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release".

    (2) Pressure tap (delivery pressure for idler pump)
    (3) Pressure tap (power shift pressure)

  3. Attach a 41,368 kPa (6,000 psi) pressure sensor to pressure tap (2).

  4. Disconnect connector (5) from the solenoid valve for swing parking brake (4).

Test Procedure

  1. Start the engine.

  2. Place the machine controls at the following settings: engine speed dial "10" and AEC switch OFF. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Engine Performance - Test (Engine Speed)" for engine rpm settings.

  3. Increase the hydraulic oil temperature to 55° ± 5°C (131° ± 9°F).

  4. Place the hydraulic activation control lever in the UNLOCKED position.

  5. Move the swing control lever slowly and ensure that the swing parking brake is operating properly.

Right Swing Motor

    Note: A temporary setting of the relief valve pressures for the left swing motor is required to see the relief valve pressures of the right swing motor.

  1. Loosen locknut (15) on the left swing motor. Turn adjustment plug (16) by 90 degrees clockwise.

  2. Tighten locknut (15) to a torque of 118 ± 10 N·m (87 ± 7 lb ft).

  3. Loosen locknut (18) on the left swing motor. Turn adjustment plug (17) by 90 degrees clockwise.

  4. Tighten locknut (18) to a torque of 118 ± 10 N·m (87 ± 7 lb ft).

  5. Slowly move the swing control lever for a full SWING RIGHT operation and check the pressure for relief valve (8) at pressure tap (2).

  6. Return the swing control lever to the NEUTRAL position.

  7. To adjust the swing relief valve, loosen locknut (9) on the right swing motor. Turn adjustment plug (10) until the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (2) is within the specification.

  8. Tighten locknut (9) to a torque of 118 ± 10 N·m (87 ± 7 lb ft).

  9. Slowly move the swing control lever for a full SWING LEFT operation and check the pressure for relief valve (13) at pressure tap (2).

  10. Return the swing control lever to the NEUTRAL position.

  11. Loosen locknut (12) on the right swing motor. Turn adjustment plug (11) until pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (2) is within the specification.

  12. Tighten locknut (12) to a torque of 118 ± 10 N·m (87 ± 7 lb ft).

Note: Turning adjustment plugs (10) and (11) clockwise increases the pressure. Turning adjustment plugs (10) and (11) counterclockwise decreases the pressure.

Note: Always make final pressure adjustment on the pressure rise.

Left Swing Motor

    Note: After the adjustment of the right swing motor is complete, an adjustment of the relief valve pressures for the left swing motor is required to see the relief valve pressures of the left swing motor.

  1. Loosen locknut (15) on the left swing motor. Turn adjustment plug (16) by 180 degrees counterclockwise.

  2. Tighten locknut (15) to a torque of 118 ± 10 N·m (87 ± 7 lb ft).

  3. Loosen locknut (18) on the left swing motor. Turn adjustment plug (17) by 180 degrees counterclockwise.

  4. Tighten locknut (18) to a torque of 118 ± 10 N·m (87 ± 7 lb ft).

  5. Slowly move the swing control lever for a full SWING RIGHT operation and check the pressure for relief valve (19) at pressure tap (2).

  6. Return the swing control lever to the NEUTRAL position.

  7. Loosen locknut (18) on the left swing motor. Turn adjustment plug (17) until the pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (2) is within the specification.

  8. Tighten locknut (18) to a torque of 118 ± 10 N·m (87 ± 7 lb ft).

  9. Slowly move the swing control lever for a full SWING LEFT operation and check the pressure for relief valve (14) at pressure tap (2).

  10. Return the swing control lever to the NEUTRAL position.

  11. Loosen locknut (15) on the left swing motor. Turn adjustment plug (16) until pressure gauge reading at pressure tap (2) is within the specification.

  12. Tighten locknut (15) to a torque of 118 ± 10 N·m (87 ± 7 lb ft).

    Note: Turning adjustment plugs (16) and (17) clockwise increases the pressure. Turning adjustment plugs (16) and (17) counterclockwise decreases the pressure.

    Note: Always make final pressure adjustment on the pressure rise.
