Boom Circuit #1 & Boom Circuit #2 Health Check

The "Health Check" test procedure is used to identify if there is leakage in the main valve. This procedure is also used to attempt to identify the component that may be the root cause.

The "Health Check" software is embedded into the machine software. Through a combination of tests, and referencing the ACS Valve Inspection Table 1, the software will help determine which component is causing an issue.

Example: If "Boom Circuit #1" passes with no errors and the results from "Boom Circuit #2" show an error, the "Warm Up 2" is the root cause.

Note: After the test results have been interpreted and a component has been identified as a possible root cause, investigate the component for proper operation.

The "Boom Circuit #1" Health Check will inspect the main relief valve 1, bypass valve 1 and warm-up valve 1 (Boom).

The "Boom Circuit #2" Health Check will inspect the warm-up valve 2 (Stick).

Accessing the Health Check Procedures

The "Health Check" test procedure can be accessed through the Monitor.

The following steps show how to access the "Health Check" procedure in the Monitor.

The "Device Test" menu is located under "Service" that is selected from the "Main Menu."

When the "Device Test" menu is selected, the following options are presented:

  • Variable Relief Valves

  • Attachment Valves

  • Health Check

When the "Health Check" menu is selected, the following options are presented:

  • Boom Circuit #1

  • Boom Circuit #2

  • Stick Circuit #1

  • Stick Circuit #2

  • Swash Plate #1

  • Swash Plate #2

  • Manual Valve

Boom Circuit #1

  1. Select "Boom Circuit #1".

  2. Click the "OK" button to begin the test process.

  3. Set the hydraulic lock lever to the unlocked position.

  4. Hydraulic oil temperature must be between 40° C (104° F) and 60° C (140° F).

  5. Move the machine to level ground. Place the stick and bucket cylinder in the minimum retract position and lower the boom until the linkage is resting on the ground. Press "OK" to continue.

  6. Set to "Minimum Flow". Press "OK" to continue.

    Note: Use the "Slide Bar" to increase or decrease pump flow if necessary.

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

    Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

    To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.


    Note: Verify "OK" has been selected and on-screen prompts command the user to move the implement joysticks before continuing.

  7. Move any implement control input to the extreme position to begin the "Health Check". Releasing the control before the "Health Check" is complete will cause the "Health Check" to abort.

  8. The "Health Check" test is active.

    Refer to the Testing and Adjusting manual for this machine for the proper pump specifications

  9. Scroll down during the testing process to observe the pump pressure on the monitor or in the Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) Service Tool. To reset pump flow or exit the test, release the lever.

    Note: If pressure does not achieve the relief pressure with "minimum flow", there may be a problem with one of the following parts:

    • Warm up valve 1 (Boom)

    • Main Relief Valve 1

    • Bypass 1

    Refer to Table 1 to determine which part is causing the problem.

  10. Proceed to the next "Health Check Procedure."

Boom Circuit #2

Note: Prior to beginning this test procedure, verify that warm up 1, main relief 1 and bypass 1 do not have any faults.

  1. Select "Boom Circuit #2".

  2. Click the "OK" button to begin the test process.

  3. Set the hydraulic lock lever to the unlocked position.

  4. Hydraulic oil temperature must be between 40° C (104° F) and 60° C (140° F).

  5. Move the machine to level ground. Place the stick and bucket cylinder in the minimum retract position and lower the boom until the linkage is resting on the ground. Press "OK" to continue.
