Problem List For The Backhoe Loader Transmission
- The transmission does not operate in any speed or the transmission does not engage in all speeds.
- The transmission does not shift into fifth gear forward.
- The transmission does not shift.
- The transmission gets hot.
- Pump noise that is not normal.
- The transmission has noise that is not normal.
- The transmission operates in forward speeds only.
- The transmission operates in reverse speeds or in some forward speeds only.
- The clutch engagement is slow and the transmission makes rough shifts.
- Oil pressure too low.
- A single clutch pressure is too low.
Probable Causes To The Problems Of The Backhoe Loader Transmission
Problem 1
The transmission does not operate in any speed or the transmission does not engage in all speeds.
Probable causes
- The neutral lockout switch is engaged.
- The parking brake is set or the parking brake switch has failed.
- An electrical failure in the shift control or a damaged transmission control fuse.
- Low oil pressure that is a result of the following causes:
- The oil level is low.
- Oil pump failure.
- Air leaks on inlet side of the pump.
- The transmission leaks.
- The transmission has a mechanical failure.
- Clutch discs and plates have too much wear.
- The seals leak.
Problem 2
The transmission does not shift into fifth gear.
Probable causes
- The speed sensor is not adjusted correctly.
- The autoshift switch is in the manual mode.
Problem 3
The transmission does not shift.
Probable causes
- Air leaks on inlet side of pump.
- The wiring to the solenoid control valve is broken or the wiring is not connected.
- An electrical failure in shift control or a damaged transmission control fuse.
- Low oil pressure.
Problem 4
The transmission gets hot.
Probable causes
- A temperature gauge is damaged.
- The oil level is high.
- The core of the oil cooler is not open.
- The clutch is slipping too much.
- The oil pressure is low.
- The clutch is damaged.
- Low oil flow as a result of pump wear or extra leakage in the hydraulic system.
- The application for the vehicle is wrong. A large load causes too much torque converter slip.
- Air is in the oil. Air leaks on intake side of pump.
- The torque converter relief valve is stuck open.
- The oil in the transmission is wrong.
Problem 5
Pump noise that is not normal.
Probable causes
- Foreign material is in the transmission hydraulic system.
- A constant loud noise is an indication of pump failure.
- There is a failed suction tube or a damaged suction tube.
Problem 6
The transmission has noise that is not normal.
Probable causes
- Parts have wear or damage.
Problem 7
The transmission operates in forward speeds only.
Probable causes
- Wiring to the solenoid control valve is broken or the wiring is not connected.
- The shift control is malfunctioning or there is a damaged solenoid.
- Discs and plates have too much wear in reverse direction clutches.
- The seal rings leak.
- Reverse clutch components have damage.
- The control valve gasket has damage.
- The forward clutch is warped.
Problem 8
The transmission operates in reverse speeds or in some forward speeds only.
Probable causes
- Wiring to the forward low solenoid control valve or the forward high solenoid control valve is broken or the string is not connected.
- The shift control is malfunctioning or there is a damaged solenoid.
- Discs and plates have too much wear in forward direction clutches.
- The seal rings leak.
- Forward clutch components have damage.
- The control valve gasket has damage.
- The reverse clutch is warped.
Problem 9
The clutch engagement is slow and the transmission makes rough shifts.
Probable causes
- The transmission oil pressure is low.
- The oil leaks internally.
- The solenoid is sticking.
- The transmission contains oil with the wrong viscosity.
Problem 10
Oil pressure too low.
Probable causes
- The oil level is low.
- Failure of transmission oil pump.
- There is a suction leak.
- The oil in the transmission is wrong.
- The torque converter inlet relief valve is stuck open.
Problem 11
A single clutch pressure is too low.
Probable causes
- The clutch has leakage.
- The solenoid valve spool is not shifting fully.
- Oil is leaking past the seals of the solenoid valve to the tank.
