  1. Use a suitable towing device to position the undercarriage under the upper frame assembly. Apply Tooling (B) to the surface of the undercarriage.

    Note: Lower the rear of the machine first to gain clearance between the pinion gear and ring gear.

  2. Lower the machine with Tooling (F).The weight of upper frame (5) is approximately 10890 kg (24000 lb). Lower the upper frame 12.70 mm (0.50 inch) from back and then lower the front to keep the pinion gear from binding.

  4. Apply Tooling (H) to the threads of bolts (24). Install bolts (24). Tighten bolts (24) to a torque of 150 ± 15 N·m (111 ± 11 lb ft). Tighten bolts (24) an additionalan extra 70 ± 5 degrees. Connect tube assembly (23). Refer to Service Magazine , M0083843 , "An Improved Bolt Tightening Procedure for the Critical Joints Is Now Used on all Excavators" for more detailed information.

  5. Install boot (20). Install clamp (22). Install retainer (21). Install hose assemblies (19). Install fittings (18).

  6. Install hoses (17). Install bracket (16).

  7. Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (D). The weight of Tooling (D) is approximately 95 kg (210 lb). Remove plate (10). Drive pin toward the boom. (13) to remove Tooling (D). Remove pin (15). Remove Tooling (D).

  8. Attach a suitable lifting device to boom cylinder (12). The weight of boom cylinder (12) is approximately 181 kg (400 lb). Lower boom cylinder (12) onto Tooling (C). Position boom cylinder (12). Install pin (15) and spacers.

  9. Install hoses (14).

  10. Position boom cylinder (12), as shown. Drive pin (13) into position. Install plate (10) and bolts (11). Connect hose assembly (9).

  11. Drain the final drives into a suitable container.

  12. Remove two bolts (1) and install Tooling (A), as shown. Remove remaining bolts (1). Tighten forcing screws (3) to remove the cover (2) from the final drive. Remove the cover (2) while holding the ring gear against the sprocket housing.

  13. Place bolt (1) in the ring gear to hold in position, as shown. Install sun gear (4).

  14. Apply Tooling (A) onto the cover (2). Install cover (2) and bolts (1). Apply Tooling (A) to screws (3). Install screws (3) flush with cover (2). Refill with oil.
