Note: Before you begin the following procedure, swing the upper structure in order to gain access underneath the fuel tank.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the fuel tank. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel Tank Water and Sediment - Drain" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  2. Remove bolts (1) and handrail (2).

  3. Remove bolts (4) and panels (3) and (5).

  4. Remove bolts (6) and panel (7).

  5. Remove bolts (9) and door assembly (9).

  6. Disconnect harness assembly (10). Remove bolts (11) and lay filters and filter housings to the side.

  7. Turn valves (12) to the OFF position.

  8. Remove cover (13).

  9. Disconnect hose assemblies (14).

  10. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the fuel tank. The weight of the fuel tank is approximately 141 kg (312 lb).

  11. Remove bolts (15) and the washers. Remove the fuel tank from the machine.

  12. If necessary, remove sensor assembly (16) and cover assembly (17).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the fuel tank in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten screws for sensor assembly (16) and cover assembly (17) to a torque of 1.4 ± 0.1 N·m (12 ± 1.0 lb in).
