When you are using hydraulic cylinders and puller studs, always ensure that the rated capacity of the puller stud meets or exceeds the rated capacity of the hydraulic cylinder. If the puller stud does not meet or exceed the rated capacity of the hydraulic cylinder, a sudden failure of the puller stud could occur. The sudden failure of the puller stud could result in personal injury or death.



NOTICE

Do not use threaded rods that have not been hardened as tooling with hydraulic cylinders. The maximum rated tonnage should be stamped on one end of the puller studs. Do not use threaded rods that have not been stamped with the rated tonnage.

Cylinders equipped with lock valves can remain pressurized for very long periods of time, even with the hoses removed.

Failure to relieve pressure before removing a lock valve or disassembling a cylinder can result in personal injury or death.

Ensure all pressure is relieved before removing a lock valve or disassembling a cylinder.

  1. Start the engine. Park the machine on a hard, level surface. Fully extend the stick. Fully retract the bucket. Shut off the engine.

  2. Release hydraulic system pressure.

  3. Disconnect hose assemblies (2).

  4. Attach a suitable lifting device to the rod end of bucket cylinder (1). The weight of bucket cylinder (1) is approximately 306 kg (675 lb). Position suitable blocking under the bucket linkage.

  5. Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A). The weight of Tooling (A) is approximately 66 kg (145 lb). Remove nuts (5) and bolt (3). Use Tooling (A) to remove pin (4). The combined weight of Tooling (A) and pin (4) is approximately 100 kg (220 lb).

  6. Raise the rod end of bucket cylinder (1) until bucket cylinder (1) is horizontal. Attach a suitable lifting device to the cylinder of bucket cylinder (1).

  7. Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (C). The weight of Tooling (C) is approximately 29 kg (65 lb). Use Tooling (C) to remove pin assembly (8). The combined weight of Tooling (C) and pin assembly (8) is approximately 41 kg (90 lb). Remove bolt (7), pin assembly (8), and spacer (6). Remove bucket cylinder (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install bucket cylinder (1) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Apply Tooling (F) to pin assembly (8). Use Tooling (D) to install pin assembly (8).

    2. Apply Tooling (F) to pin (4). Use Tooling (E) to install pin (4).

    3. Install the outer nut (5) to Dimension (X). Dimension (X) is 0.5 ± 0.5 mm (0.02 ± 0.02 inch).

(1) Use Tooling (L) and Tooling (B) to remove sleeve bearing (1). Install sleeve bearing (1) to a depth of 10.0 ± 0.5 mm (0.39 ± 0.02 inch).

(1A) Tighten bolts (1A) to a torque of 300 ± 30 N·m (221 ± 22 lb ft). Then, turn bolts (1A) an additional 30 ± 5 degrees.

(2) Lubricate the threads of the rod with the lubricant that is being sealed. Tighten piston (2) to a torque of 11000 ± 550 N·m (8115 ± 405 lb ft)

(3) Apply Tooling (H) to the threads of setscrews (3). Tighten setscrews (3) to a torque of 50 ± 10 N·m (37 ± 7 lb ft).

(4) Use Tooling (L) and Tooling (N) to remove sleeve bearing (4). Install sleeve bearing (4) to a depth of 9.9 ± 0.3 mm (0.39 ± 0.01 inch).

(5) Apply Tooling (J) to the wiper seal groove prior to assembly. Lubricate the seals slightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

(6) Lubricate the seals slightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

(7) Lubricate the inner diameter and the outer diameter of seals with clean grease.
