Start By:

  1. Remove the stick.

------ WARNING! ------

When you are using hydraulic cylinders and puller studs, always ensure that the rated capacity of the puller stud meets or exceeds the rated capacity of the hydraulic cylinder. If the puller stud does not meet or exceed the rated capacity of the hydraulic cylinder, a sudden failure of the puller stud could occur. The sudden failure of the puller stud could result in personal injury or death.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

----------------------

  1. Lower the boom to the ground.

  1. Release the hydraulic system pressure.

  1. Disconnect grease hose assembly (1) from boom cylinder (3). Remove bolts (2), plate (4), and the spacer.

    Illustration 2g01225067

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to boom cylinder (3). The weight of boom cylinder (3) is approximately 380 kg (838 lb). Install Tooling (A) into pin (5). Use a hammer to drive pin (5) out of boom cylinder (3). Lower boom cylinder (3) .

  1. Repeat Steps 2 through 4 for the other boom cylinder.

  1. Position plate (4) and bolts (2) onto each side of pin (5). Attach a suitable lifting device to each side of pin (5) .

    Illustration 7g02151714

  1. Attach a suitable lifting device to pin assembly (13). The weight of pin assembly (13) is approximately 61 kg (135 lb). Install pin assembly (13) and install bolt (12) .

  1. Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to boom (11) and pin assembly (13). The combined weight of boom (14) and the stick cylinder is between 2835 kg (6250 lb) and 2914 kg (6425 lb). Apply slight lifting tension to boom (14) .

    Illustration 8g02151793

  1. Use Tooling (D) in order to remove pin assembly (14). Attach a suitable lifting device to Tooling (D). The combined weight of Tooling (D) and pin assembly (14) is approximately 234 kg (515 lb). Remove bolts (15), the plate, pin assembly (14), the shims, and the boom.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install boom (11) in the reverse order of removal.

      Illustration 9g02151839

Note: The clearance between the end of pin assembly (14) and the cab must be more than 10.0 mm (0.39 inch).

    1. Slide the boom to one side until the boom contacts the frame. Measure Dimension (X). Install the shim until a maximum Dimension (X) is achieved. Dimension (X) is 1.60 mm (0.063 inch).
