C9.3 Engines for Caterpillar Built Machines Inlet and Exhaust Valve Guides - Remove and Install Caterpillar

Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the inlet and exhaust valves. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Inlet and Exhaust Valves - Remove and Install".

1. Use Tooling (A) to remove valve guides (1) from the cylinder head assembly.

1. Apply clean engine oil to both the outside and the inside diameter of the valve guide. Position the valve guides into the cylinder head. Tap on the top of the valve guides. This action is done to start the inlet valve guides and exhaust valve guides into the cylinder head assembly.

2. Use Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) to install the valve guides. Position a straight edge across the valve cover base sealing surface. Take a measurement from the top of the valve guide to the bottom of the straight edge. The measurement will be called Distance (C). Distance (C) should be 48.9 ± 0.5 mm (1.93 ± 0.02 inch).

1. Install the inlet and exhaust valves. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Inlet and Exhaust Valves - Remove and Install".
