2010/08/13 A New Counter Balance Spool Helps Reduce Travel Drift for 307C/D and 308C/D Excavators {4050}
Excavator:
307C (S/N: BCM1-UP)
308C (S/N: KCX1-UP)
308D (S/N: FYC1-UP; GBT1-UP)

ReferenceSpecial Instruction, REHS5600, "Procedure to Replace the Counter Balance Spool for 307C/D and 308C/D Excavators"

When the travel lever is released, the orifice in the counter balance spool slows the response of the spool. The machine may not stop as quickly as expected. An increase in the orifice size in the counter balance spool has been made from 0.5 mm (0.02 inch) to 0.6 mm (0.024 inch). Refer to Table 1 for the effectivity and adaptability of the new 352-9022 Final Drive Gp. The new final drive group has the new spool kit. The 353-0041 Spool Kit is adaptable to the machines prior to the installation of the new final drive group.Special Instruction, REHS5600 describes the necessary procedures for you to replace the counter balance spool.

Table 1
Effectivity of the New 352-9022 Final Drive Gp and Adaptability of the 353-0041 Spool Kit
Model     Effectivity     Adaptability
307C     S/N:BCM1957-UP     S/N:BCM1-1956
308C     S/N:KCX2092-UP     S/N:KCX1-2091

If a machine in the Effected population has a failure of a travel motor, replace the motor with a new 352-9022 Final Drive Gp. When the new Final Drive Gp is installed on the machine, the other travel motor must be updated with the 353-0041 Spool Kit. You do not need to replace both motors.
